Renaldo McKenzie: Welcome to another episode of The NeoLiberal Round podcast. Today, we have John Anthony Castro, the main plaintiff and the US 2024 GOP Presidential candidate. We also have Dr. Nolan Fontaine, President of the Urban Indian Heritage Society. Let’s jump right into it, John. Can you give us an update on the situation regarding Judge Cannon’s ruling?

John Anthony Castro: Yes, thank you for having me. We filed a writ of mandamus with the Eleventh Circuit, arguing that Judge Cannon was not doing her job properly by withholding judicial consideration on the motion to dismiss. On Monday, she issued a ruling stating that I didn’t have standing without any legal reasoning. We have now filed a notice of appeal to the Eleventh Circuit, and the case is officially before them.

Renaldo McKenzie: And how does the recusal issue play into this?

John Anthony Castro: Now that Judge Cannon has ruled in the case, all the issues I brought up, including her refusal to recuse herself, are formally before the appellate court. We are asking the court to determine if her bias in favor of Trump warrants her recusal in all Trump-related cases, including the indictment in Southern Florida. If the Eleventh Circuit rules against us, we will take it to the Supreme Court, where we believe we have the votes to support our case.

Dr. Nolan Fontaine: Mr. Castro, I’m intrigued by your plans for military withdrawal and cutting military spending. How do you plan to implement these policies?

John Anthony Castro: I believe we need to reevaluate our military presence in certain regions, such as South Korea and Germany. In South Korea, I believe we need to maintain our presence as a deterrent to North Korea. However, I would consider moving our bases to Poland or the Baltic countries to address Russia’s aggression. As for the Middle East, I believe investing in domestic renewable energy production can reduce our need for military intervention in the region. We need to shift our focus towards renewable energy and reduce our dependence on oil, which has often led to unjustifiable military actions.

Renaldo McKenzie: It’s important to practice what we preach and reevaluate our global involvement. Thank you for sharing your perspectives, Mr. Castro.

Dr. Nolan Fontaine: I agree with the need for strategic thinking and government involvement in key industries. It seems other countries like China and Russia are taking advantage of this approach.

Renaldo McKenzie: Indeed, it’s crucial for leadership to think strategically and promote policies that benefit their nations. The podcast also touched on the Wagner group, a private military company operating in Africa. This creates a complex dynamic in the region.

We had the opportunity to hear from Mr. John Anthony Castro, the main plaintiff in the lawsuit, as well as Dr. Fontaine from the Urban Indian Heritage Society. Note: Castro V Trump Case is an ongoing case between John Anthony Castro, who is a GOP candidate running for President in the 2024 US Presidential elections, and Former President Donald Trump. Mr. Castro is suing Mr. Trump for his role in the January 6th insurrection arguing that Mr. Trump violated section 3 of the 14th Amendment and therefore is ineligible to run for President of the US. This is the fourth episode in the series covering the progression of the case. The case started in 2022 when Mr. Castro filed a lawsuit against the Federal Elections Commission which was dismissed on the basis that the FEC can only regulate campaign financing. Mr. Castro then filed a lawsuit directly against Trump in Florida in January of this year. Mr. Trump responded by filing a motion to dismiss citing that Mr. Castro lacks standing (not a candidate) and therefore the court lacks jurisdiction. After several delays, and Mr. Castro’s Writ of Mandamus to recuse Judge Cannon for bias and delays, the 11th circuit dismissed the recusal but then Judge Cannon ruled in June to dismiss with a one-liner agreeing with Trump’s motion to dismiss. Mr. Castro then immediately filed an appeal at the 11th circuit court. According to Mr. Castro, a ruling is expected by September 2023. We will provide an update on this ruling when it becomes available and will have Mr. Castro back for part of the Castro V Trump series.
