Short Stories Duron Zuri on Overcoming Addiction on The Neoliberal Round with Renaldo McKenzie
He said it is a story of letting go and letting God, tapping into his African Spirituality and developing a consciousness that helped him build his”agency.” What is “Agency?”
According to Prof. Mazama, Africologists Temple University and Chair of the Africology Department at Temple University stated in a Lecture, agency is the ability to act on one behalf, to move in a way that improves self or for self-improvement. Many struggle to act in ways that help themselves due to a lack of agency.
Afrocentricity promotes this agency to challenge perceptions about people in Africa who lack the ability to act in ways that Africans and people have always worked for one’s betterment. Faith helps to facilitate this agency, not a Christian or a Jewish one, but one that speaks to a people’s culture and center and revolutionizes consciousness.
Africology then becomes an essential aspect of reducing recidivism since it facilitates the development of agency and a change in perception and consciousness, a necessary step towards sobriety and recovery.
